Pastor Michael Williams, Jr.

Pastor, First United Methodist Church & Zion United Methodist Church of Mount Gilead

Rev. Michael Williams, Jr. serves as pastor of First United Methodist Church in Mount Gilead, NC, where he and his wife, Jen, have felt warmly welcomed by the community. A native of Edenton, North Carolina—once the state’s capital—Michael offers both a deep sense of heritage and a spirit of openness to his ministry.

Michael is currently enrolled in the Duke University Theological Course of Study as he continues his journey toward ordination as an Elder in the United Methodist Church. He previously studied at Methodist University in Fayetteville, NC.

He and Jen share a blended family of five daughters—Caitlin, Cierra, Mikayla, Britton, and Cameryn—including two sets of twins, all in their mid-twenties. Their family has recently grown with the addition of a joyful grandson, Grayson, who keeps them smiling.

Michael is passionate about building authentic relationships, both inside and outside the church. Whether it’s sharing conversation over a cup of coffee, walking the trails of the Uwharries with his dog Anders, or offering a listening ear, he believes ministry happens wherever people feel seen and valued.

He enjoys playing guitar—especially bluegrass and Americana styles—and often uses music as a way to connect and bring people together in worship and community events. His love of the outdoors, good conversation, and laughter helps shape a ministry rooted in grace, hospitality, and hope.

Above all, Michael is committed to sharing the love and compassion of Christ through word and action. He considers it a joy and calling to serve the people of Mount Gilead and beyond.

“Come by the office or catch me around town—I’m always up for a cup of coffee and good conversation.” mw
